This timely conference brought together stakeholders and regulators to discuss the new Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) and exercise for 2023 - including the introduction of new regulatory requirements in student outcomes.
Delegates heard latest thinking and updates from the OfS as final adjustments are made ahead of the submission deadline on the 24th of January, and learn from peers in preparation for submissions in future years.
We are pleased to have been able to include keynote sessions with Graeme Rosenberg, Head of TEF, Office for Students; and Professor April McMahon, Deputy Chair (academic), TEF Panel.
Discussion examined the process for gathering and presenting data to demonstrate excellence in the student experience, incorporating evidence from across student groups and subjects, meeting and exceeding new B3 thresholds for outcomes, and the experience of specialist providers in tackling the challenges of limited data sets and resources.
There was also a focus on new independent student submissions, the relationship and nature of collaboration between students and providers, and the priorities for support and guidance following the experiences of new TEF student contacts.
Delegates had the opportunity to consider the changes in the latest TEF exercise, with discussion expected on:
- the utility of the TEF as a tool for quality enhancement
- the future role of the TEF in student choice and the impact of new ratings on provider reputation
- the effectiveness of the exercise in measuring teaching excellence
- wider measures of positive outcomes and alternatives to the B3 indicators
