This conference examined the latest developments, next steps and priorities going forward for the Oxford-Cambridge Arc.
It was an opportunity to discuss the direction of future policy for the Arc project with indications that the Government is stepping back from involvement in favour of local leadership of the strategy going forward.
Key stakeholders and policymakers also considered the future of the Government’s prospective Spatial Framework for the region.
We expected discussion on local and national priorities for enhancing the infrastructure, environment and development of the Arc region - as well as outcomes of the public consultation on the vision for the future of the area.
Overall, the agenda brought out latest thinking on:
- the Spatial Framework - local stakeholder perspectives on its potential implementation
- transport - investment and supporting development, connectivity and inclusive growth
- developing a local climate strategy - a green Arc, natural environment and net-zero targets
- the region’s research and innovation clusters - support, and their role in the future development of the Oxford-Cambridge Arc
We were pleased to include keynote sessions with Bev Hindle, Executive Director, Oxford-Cambridge Arc Leadership Group; Dr Nik Johnson, Mayor, Cambridge & Peterborough Combined Authority; and Nigel Tipple, Chief Executive, Oxfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership.
The chairs were Jonathan Djanogly MP, Vice-Chair, All-Party Parliamentary Group for East of England; and Daniel Zeichner MP, Shadow Minister for Farming, Food, Fisheries and Rural Affairs; and Chair, All-Party Parliamentary Group for East of England.
The conference was an opportunity for stakeholders to consider the issues alongside key policy officials who attended from BEIS; DAERA, NI; Defra; the DfT; the DIT; the GLD; Homes England; NIC; Ofwat; and the PRU.
