This seminar was an opportunity to assess the future for general practice in England.
Delegates discussed the progress on implementing NHS England’s General Practice Forward View, and key issues for general practice in the context of NHS England’s Next steps on the Five Year Forward View - including the potential impact of £2.4bn increased funding by 2020/21 and the goal to increase GP numbers by 5,000 by 2020.
Further sessions focused on the increasing role of mergers, federations and hubs in general practice, the impact of delivering Sustainability and Transformation Partnerships (STPs) and new models of care on general practice - as well as the priorities for developing fit-for-purpose premises as noted in the NHS Property and Estates: Naylor review, which included plans to invest £900m in practices and enable NHS England to fund up to 100 percent of the costs for premises developments.
