This seminar considered way forward for Big Data and artificial intelligence in the NHS and how it can be used to improve health outcomes - including its application in decision-making and the allocation of resources within trusts, its use in advancing clinical research, and opportunities for further innovation.
Delegates at this seminar assessed the opportunities provided by Big Data and artificial intelligence to improve the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease - with the Prime Minister having highlighted advances achieved in the areas of cancer, diabetes and heart disease.
Delegates also looked at concerns surrounding the increasing use of patient data and what measures can be taken to ensure public confidence in the handling of data - which were examined in the Science and Technology Select Committee’s inquiry into algorithms in decision making - as well as the impact from the introduction of legislation, such as EU GDPR and the Data Protection Act.
Further sessions assessed how staff can be supported to adapt work practices and utilise new technologies in healthcare.
