Delegates at this conference considered next steps for delivering diabetes care and improving patient experience.
It followed the publication by NHS England of Action for Diabetes, as well as reports by Public Health England and the Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition which warned of the link between excess sugar intake and type 2 diabetes.
Those who attended - including senior policymakers, health professionals, patient representatives and further interested parties - considered issues surrounding better long-term health management, what more can be done to support early diagnosis, and next steps for equipping the workforce to effectively treat both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetic patients.
Delegates also assessed progress made by NHS England and Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) in commissioning appropriate services and models of sustainable funding one year on from the introduction of the Health and Social Care Act.
