This conference examined the future for data protection in the UK.

It brought key stakeholders together with policymakers to discuss the ongoing progress of the Data Protection and Digital Information Bill (No 2), and next steps going forward.

Delegates examined measures proposed in the Bill, the impact of changes to the framework of data protection for policy and regulation as well as for commercial sectors in the UK, and implications for consumers and privacy.

Discussion also assessed how reform can help the UK maintain adequacy and support trade agreements and international relationships, while at the same time ensuring high standards of data protection rights.

There was also discussion on key issues for future uses of data in scientific and commercial research, and the way forward for smart data schemes and digital verification services.

Further sessions examined public trust in the data protection framework, as well as protection for data subject rights.
